A Week of Growth and Wonder: Planting, Electrical Work, and an Eclipse Experience

Hello, fellow homesteaders and curious minds! This week at Backroads Homesteading, we’ve had a whirlwind of activities, from gardening and electrical work to witnessing the marvel of a solar eclipse. Join us as we share the highlights of our week and the lessons learned along the way.

Gardening Adventures: Our week kicked off in the garden, where we focused on getting our beds ready for the season. We brought out the broad fork to aerate the soil, ensuring our plants have the best environment to thrive. With a mix of marigolds and cabbages now nestled in their new home, we’re hopeful for a bountiful harvest. The process wasn’t just about planting; it was a reminder of the importance of preparing the foundation for any growth.

Electrical Endeavors: Indoors, we shifted our attention to some much-needed electrical work in Link’s room. With the help of our friend Jason from White Rock Homestead, we installed new outlets and prepared the wiring for a mini-split system. The task had its challenges, including a nicked wire that tested our problem-solving skills. But with teamwork and determination, we powered through, literally!

Eclipse Experience: The highlight of our week was undoubtedly the solar eclipse. We joined our neighbors and church groups to witness this rare celestial event. As the light dimmed and the crickets started chirping, there was a sense of awe and wonder that filled the air. It was a reminder of the beauty and mystery of nature, and how it can bring a community together.

This week has been a mix of hard work, learning, and awe-inspiring moments. Whether it’s preparing a garden bed, tackling electrical work, or marveling at an eclipse, each activity has its own set of challenges and rewards. We’re grateful for the experiences and the lessons they bring.
